- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter softened
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup milk
- Food coloring red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple
- 4 cups frosting cream cheese or buttercream
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare six 8-inch round cake pans.
In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Stir in vanilla extract.
Gradually add the dry ingredients, alternating with the milk.
Divide the batter evenly into six bowls.
Add food coloring to each bowl to create vibrant colors.
Pour each colored batter into prepared pans and smooth the tops.
Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
Let the cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
Once cooled, layer cakes with frosting in between each layer and cover the entire cake with frosting.
