- 1 large onion
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- Oil for frying
- Salt and pepper to taste
Peel the onion and cut off the top and bottom.
Make vertical cuts down the onion, leaving the base intact.
In a bowl, mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, cayenne, salt, and pepper.
In another bowl, whisk eggs and buttermilk together.
Dip the onion in the egg mixture, ensuring it’s well coated.
Roll the onion in the flour mixture, covering all petals.
Heat oil in a deep fryer to 350°F (175°C).
Carefully place the onion in the oil, frying until golden brown.
Remove and drain on paper towels.
Serve with your favorite dipping sauce.
